My second favorite holiday in New Orleans is Halloween, and this year it falls on a Friday!!!
Back in the olden days (smile), Gypsy Caravan came every year, taught a workshop and participated (led? created??) a Halloween parade of zombie bellydancers and drummers through the quarter. Everyone joined in. It was SO fun.
At some point in recent (postK, right??) history, Urban Gypsy started coming, and while I don't think they were here last year (is that right??), they're back this time, and we're doing it right.
Workshops on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with Urban Gypsy and Rachel George (a lovely cab dancer from the great NW).
Big show on Saturday night at Balcony Music Club in the Quarter.
The show is open to the public, and the theme is Bellementals (emphasis on elementals). Performers must be workshop participants and they must submit an application for a jury process. The idea is not to exclude, but rather to put together a unified and thematic presentation that will give the general public a good look at bellydance at its best. So start thinking NOW!
